Laytonville
including Czech Lodge, Maple Lodge
and Empire Modern Camp.

Laytonville is located in Mendocino County, north of Ukiah, on US 101. It marks the southern beginning of that part of the Redwood Highway where almost every "wide spot in the road" came to be occupied by some sort of accomodation, fuel stop, or tourist attraction. We must remember that in those earlier days of car travel, 100-200 miles was a long haul! Along with cards showing Laytonville, this page will have cards from Czech Lodge (9 ½ miles north), Maple Lodge (10 miles north), and Empire Camp, another 2 miles farther.

The Czech Lodge location is still recognizable today and has a sign marked as "Area 101" - an obvious play on that "mystery area" in Nevada! Empire camp is completely gone, the site is now a Rest Area on the east side of the road. Another half mile further you will come upon Tan Oak Park - which has it's own page.
