Crescent City

Crescent City is located on the Redwood Highway, in Del Norte County about 350 miles north of San Francisco.

It was the site of Totem Pole Park and the Wonder Tree Stump which have their own pages.

The Alaska earthquake of March 1964 caused a tsunami which struck Crescent City in four waves from 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM on the 28th. During the highest crest the water rose to over 20½ feet, destroying well over 200 homes and businesses and causing eleven deaths and leaving three missing. Much of the old commercial waterfront activity (such as Totem Pole Park) was never rebuilt.

I would be very happy to hear more from anyone with further information or postcard images!
