The town of Klamath, is located
on the Redwood Highway in Del Norte County about 65 miles north
of Eureka.
The town was badly damaged in the 1955 floods and then almost completely destroyed in the Christmas floods of 1964. Virtually nothing remains on the original townsite except for a camping ground operating out of a trailer, but there is a fairly thriving Indian town located out of the flood plain on the other side of the present highway as you enter Del Norte County on the new bridge. Three cards below show some of the 1955 damage, which also washed out one span of the Douglas Bridge, another (09) is postmarked just 3 weeks before the 1964 flood washed away most of the town and almost all of the bridge. I would be very happy to hear more from anyone with further information or postcard images! |
