The Tour Thru Tree on the Redwood Highway

The Tour Thru Tree is located on the Redwood Highway in del Norte County.
It is just east of the Klamath exit and about 20 miles south of Crescent City

The Tour-Thru is the most recently tunneled tree (June 1976) and is unusual for a large tree in being located on a hillside rather than on a flat along a river. It is not as tall as many (120' on one postcard), since it was topped by lightning in the past. The opening was made taller in the early 90s to accomodate bicylcles, car-top carriers and larger vehicles. (See picture 12 below)

I would be very happy to hear more from anyone with further information or postcard images!

The owners of the Tour-Thru Tree constructed a rest room from a large log section.
It has it's own page.
