the Del Norte Wonder Tree on the Redwood Highway

The Del Norte Wonder Tree is/was
located at the northern end of Crescent City on the Redwood
Highway in Del Norte County. On the sign on card (08), the location is given as
"Roosevelt highway, near Lake Earl School" and also there is a
Wonder Stump exit off the present Highway 101.
On a trip in the year 2000, we looked for the stump for an hour but were not able to find it. A friend living in Redcrest told me that she and her husband were pretty certain they had located it and we plan to go back! Another contact, working in the museum at Prairie Creek State Park, said she lives on Wonder Stump Road and drew me a map which indicates it is on private property and not in sight of the road. I would be very happy to hear more from anyone with further information or postcard images! |
